Summary

Through this programme, Germany's government aims to follow up on recent progresses in energy research, take new initiatives and define priorities for research funding and innovation policy in the energy sector. The programme is based on the following principles:
  •  technology and innovation transfers are deemed urgent because they are seen as a prerequisite for the efficient and intersectional implementation of the energy transition.
  • direct funding for limited-term projects with a defined topic will be augmented. The research spectrum will be broadened in order to also comprise systemic and inter-systemic issues of the energy transition.
  • institutional research funding for the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF) is to be supported by the federal government.
  • National research work shall be more closely intertwined with international and European partners.
