Summary

The Concept of Water Sector Development in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 sets an overarching agenda for the water sector in the long term, ensuring stable supply and efficient consumption. The Concept notes climate change as a major contributor to water insecurity, in large part through the shrinkage of glaciers. It promotes significant efficiency improvements at pumping stations and irrigation systems, and improvements to surface water storage, allowing sustainable use of existing water supplies without depleting aquifers. It also promotes significant development of human resources, introducing new specialised training systems for water sector workers.
