Summary

In this second edition of 'Potential Sea Areas for Offshore Wind in Japan,' Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI) analyses potential sea areas for offshore wind development in Japan and updates the first edition by newly incorporating new analyses primarily focused on natural environment data and marine utilisation data. The analysis shows that the total potential sea areas are equivalent to 62 GW for fixed offshore wind and 2,347 GW for floating offshore wind. The report also provides recommendations for the government's role in data collection and data sharing with fisheries and other stakeholders.
