As one of the top ten countries most vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan faces considerable climate-related risks. This vulnerability is further intensified by the country's strong dependence on agriculture. Rising temperatures and extreme weather events are projected to diminish yields, disrupt growing seasons, exacerbate crop losses, and constrain market access. This poses significant challenges, especially for smallholder farmers who make up 90 per cent of the agricultural workforce. These farmers lack the resources to adapt to climate risks, making them highly vulnerable and threatening the country's food security. 

The Acumen Climate Action Pakistan (ACAP) Fund aims to establish a USD 80 million climate adaptation-focused investment fund in Pakistan, providing patient capital to agribusinesses. The fund's goal is to improve the climate resilience of vulnerable farmers and their livelihoods by providing access to climate adaptation solutions for smallholder farmers. Additionally, a USD 10 million Technical Assistance envelope will provide targeted support to improve the viability of business models of investee companies and build overall climate resilience of smallholder farmers and the ecosystem. The project seeks to demonstrate a commercially viable business model, improve farmers' climate adaptive capacity, and catalyse capital towards Pakistan's national climate adaptation priorities in the vulnerable agriculture sector.

Financial support to help individuals manage the effects of unexpected events, securing their livelihoods and increasing the resilience of people and businesses to the changing climate. It’s especially vital in developing regions where everyday risks, climate-related weather extremes, or crop failures can push people into poverty. Without insurance, people may have to resort to selling assets or cutting consumption to cope with losses.

The cryosphere is the frozen part of the Earth—it includes sea ice, glaciers, snow, and ice sheets. It helps regulate the climate and weather by reflecting sunlight. Rising temperatures are causing melting, leading to sea ice loss, glacier collapse, and glacier landslides and avalanches. This threatens the livelihoods of around 700 million people who rely on the cryosphere for food, water security, and cultural practices.

Slow onset events evolve gradually from incremental changes over many years or from increased frequency or intensity of recurring events. As defined in the Cancun Adaptation Framework (2010), slow onset events include risks and impacts from rising temperatures, desertification, biodiversity loss, land and forest degradation, glacial retreat, ocean acidification, sea level rise, and salinization.

Climate change can have a range of impacts on technological system. Extreme weather events can cause infrastructure failures like power outages or damage to roads and bridges, as well as the impacts from waste following natural disasters. Human activities also cause technological impacts, such as the risks posed by oil spillage and leaks.

Climate change can increase the frequency and severity of some geohazards, such as landslides, and soil erosion.
