Summary

Building the adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities in Tajikistan affected by food insecurity. Tajikistan is experiencing increasing temperature and rainfall variability and recurrent natural disasters, particularly droughts and floods. Local communities in mountainous areas have low adaptive capacity to cope with these impacts, due to a lack of adequate climate information to plan their agricultural production while they rely heavily on climate-sensitive sources of income. This initiative will introduce adaption measures to address climate change effects leading to declines in agricultural yields, increases in food prices and reduced agricultural wages. It will focus on the most vulnerable and food insecure communities in the Rasht valley, Khatlon and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) regions. It will include an integrated approach to provide climate information services, capacity building, sustainable water management and resilient agriculture and forestry. The project has an estimated lifespan of 4 years.
