Brazil’s Sectoral Plan for Energy is part of the Adaptation Climate Plan framework and aims to strengthen the resilience of the country’s energy system to climate change impacts. The plan focuses on identifying and reducing climate-related risks to energy generation, transmission, distribution, and supply, including risks associated with extreme weather events, changing hydrological conditions, heatwaves, droughts, and other climate hazards. It promotes the integration of climate risk management into energy planning, the diversification and reliability of energy infrastructure, and the adoption of adaptation measures that enhance energy security while supporting a sustainable and resilient energy transition.
Main Objectives:
- Ensure the supply of and access to electricity in the face of climate-related threats, while promoting efforts to combat energy poverty;
- Ensure the supply of fuels, particularly biofuels and low-carbon fuels, in the face of climate-related threats; and
- Implement and strengthen the resilience of infrastructure in the energy sector.
